As Healthy Active Communities Program Manager, Jennifer oversees the Foundation’s investments as they relate to increasing physical activity and access to healthy food for North Carolinians. In addition to overseeing two responsive grants cycles, Jennifer works with Be Active North Carolina, Inc. to manage one of the Foundation’s Signature Programs, Be Active Kids®.  She also manages five rural North Carolina partnerships that make up the Foundation’s Fit Together grants program-an initiative designed to improve access and remove barriers to physical activity in rural communities.

More about Jennifer:

For five years, Jennifer worked with NC State University’s Recreation Resources Service where she assisted municipal and county parks and recreation departments in the development and management of both the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund and Land and Water Conservation Fund projects. In addition, Jennifer worked collaboratively with parks and recreation agencies across the state to help develop partnerships between parks and recreation and public health agencies for the benefit of community health. Her additional physical activity experience results from working in a cross section of other North Carolina nonprofits including the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, Special Olympics North Carolina, and North Carolina Amateur Sports-Cycle North Carolina.

When not at her desk:

Currently, Jennifer serves as chair of the Wake County Council on Fitness and Health and the Parks and Recreation Partnership for a Healthier Wake. Jennifer is on the Steering Committee for North Carolina Action for Healthy Kids and a member of the Eat Smart Move More Leadership Team, the NC Arthritis Association Advisory Board, and the North Carolina Alliance for Health. Jennifer is a member of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association professional society and volunteers for the North Carolina Senior Games.
