Kathy Higgins

President

Since 2004, Kathy has served as president of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation where she has led unprecedented growth and the strategic investment of more than $67 million into North Carolina communities. Kathy has helped direct the BCBSNC Foundation since its founding in 2000, when the independent, private, charitable foundation was established with a mission dedicated to improving the health and well-being of North Carolinians.

More about Kathy:

Kathy has served BCBSNC for the past 24 years. Aside from leading the Foundation, she is vice president of Corporate Affairs, where she oversees all corporate communications and corporate-based philanthropic initiatives. She is responsible for directing the company’s internal, external and new media communications; strategic positioning; and communications related to BCBSNC leadership. She also directs the company’s corporate citizenship functions including community investments, outreach programs and employee community involvement.

As part of her commitment to connecting BCBSNC with the people of North Carolina, in 2008, Kathy co-led a statewide campaign to promote physical activity and personal health by walking 650 miles across North Carolina.

When not at her desk:

Kathy has lent her time and talent to more than 30 community organizations, among them: Be Active North Carolina, the Jimmy V Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic, the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Health, the Kids ‘N Community Foundation of the Carolina Hurricanes and Leadership North Carolina. She also co-chaired the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship, and served on the Executive Council of the 1996 and 2001 championships. In 2004, Kathy traveled to New Zealand and Australia to study health care innovation and policy as an Eisenhower Fellow, and was selected as a Fulbright Senior Scholar.

Kathy is the proud mother of 2 year-old twin boys and an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
