As Program Officer of the Community Impact focus area, Valerie is working to build the capacity and improve the effectiveness of North Carolina's nonprofits through grantmaking, consulting, strategic planning, Board development and leadership development.
More about Valerie:
Before her transition to the Program Officer role, Valerie served as Operations Manager for two years in the Foundation, where she was responsible for processes and procedures, technology, financials and communications related to increasing the effectiveness of the organization. Prior to that, she worked in Corporate Communications at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina where she focused on enterprise-wide communications strategies and tactics aimed at various audiences including Blue Cross members and the media. She lived in Chicago for five years, where she worked in special events and fundraising for Junior Achievement of Chicago and was also a regional business consultant in the manufacturing sector for Perry Johnson, Inc.
When not at her desk:
Valerie serves on the fundraising committee for one of her favorite causes, Girls on the Run of the Triangle, plus stays active in her sorority's alumnae chapter. A recent newlywed, she loves spending time with her husband, hanging out with friends and getting outdoors as much as possible, especially to run.
