Chapel Hill, NC – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation (BCBSNC Foundation) today announced that Friday, July 15 is the deadline for organizations wishing to apply for Foundation grants under $25,000. Applications must be received by the BCBSNC Foundation by close of business on July 15.

Organizations submitting applications must meet eligibility criteria and present a compelling case to qualify for funding. Eligibility criteria for applicant organizations include:

  • Located within North Carolina;
  • A 501(c)(3) organization, or an educational or governmental entity with tax-exempt status; and
  • Proposal includes an audited statement from a certified public accountant.

"We know there are many worthy organizations in North Carolina and we are eager to help them carry out their missions," said Kathy Higgins, Foundation vice president and senior director of community relations at BCBSNC. "The Blue Cross Foundation encourages nonprofits and other organizations to review the eligibility criteria and seriously consider applying for a grant. We are always looking for groups who need funding to further their efforts."

When evaluating applicants, the Blue Cross Foundation searches for sustainable programs that show measurable and replicable results. Organizations receiving funding should be willing to share their findings and results with other community organizations.

"We focus most on those organizations who help meet the health care needs of the uninsured and underinsured, work to reduce racial and ethnic health disparities, encourage physical activity or promote health screenings and education," said Higgins.

Organizations are encouraged to apply for grants online through the BCBSNC Foundation's Web site at www.bcbsnc.com/foundation.
