Staying healthy means exercising, eating right, and following doctors’ orders. For some North Carolinians, however, buying the medications that their doctors prescribe can be difficult. ECU Care - a pharmacy assistance program for individuals without health insurance in eastern North Carolina - is trying to change that.
Since the program launched in 2000 with the help of a $1 million grant from the BCBSNC Foundation, the clinic has grown from two rooms to a large stand-alone clinic serving hundreds each year. The staff works to help the patients from all walks of life secure medications they need and would otherwise not be able to afford.
