For North Carolina's uninsured, access to quality care is made possible by the North Carolina Association of Free Clinics and its 74 member clinics across the state. From the mountains of Ashe County to Elizabeth City in the east, the volunteer-driven free clinics see more than 300,000 patient visits and provide $65 million in care annually. Until a long-term solution can be found, free clinics will continue to be a haven of care for our state’s working poor and uninsured.
Today, North Carolina has one of the nation's largest network of free clinics. This is due in part to a five-year, $10 million dollar grant that is supporting the work of free clinics across North Carolina. Since the partnership began, total patient visits have increased by almost 50 percent and the number and geographic reach of free clinics has grown by more than 30 percent
