Project:

Increase long-term financial stability for organization serving women with diabetes across North Carolina.

Impact:

In 2009, the Foundation approved a $10,000 capacity-building investment in DiabetesSisters, a volunteer-led organization committed to improving the health and quality of life for women with or at risk of developing diabetes. As a result of attendance at the Healthy Community Institute, combined with this investment, the organization increased its revenue from $10,000 in 2008 to $100,000 in 2009, increased the amount of financial support from board members, and increased Web site hits by 25%. In addition, in 2010, DiabetesSisters established a partnership with Taking Control of Your Diabetes, a national nonprofit, and held its first Weekend for Women Conference which generated $102,000.
