Foundation for Nursing Excellence

Grantee:

Foundation for Nursing Excellence

Current Grant:

Two-years, $290,223 (2006)

Project:

Identify strategies to rapidly deliver new nurses into the workforce

Impact:

To help address North Carolina’s nursing shortage, BCBSNC Foundation is supporting a two-year planning grant with the Foundation for Nursing Excellence (FNE) to plan and develop a future model for a school-to-work transition for new nursing school graduates.

The primary driver behind the project is to incorporate new nurses into the workforce as quickly as possible and ensure their ability to provide safe and effective care.

FNE is working to create and evaluate a statewide, formalized transition to practice program that will become a requirement for full nurse licensure by the year 2015.  The transition program will include the nurse being employed in a practice setting of his/her choice with access to regional centers, developed in partnership with the NC AHECs, for core competency assessment and development opportunities.
