Equipment Requests
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation’s Healthy Active Communities Focus Area seeks to assist agencies around the state become healthier. We invest in equipment that will help increase physical activity and encourage healthy eating. To be eligible, agencies must either serve a rural community1 or target a vulnerable populations2 in an urban community. Agencies may request up to $5,000 when seeking assistance though the Equipment Request. Please note this request is for EQUIPMENT ONLY. Comprehensive proposals seeking investment in programs, policy and environmental changes should include the associated equipment costs on the budget spreadsheet of their proposal and should not complete this separate equipment request.
Equipment is defined as tools or accessories that will enhance the capability of an agency to increase levels of physical activity or access to healthy food for rural communities or for vulnerable populations in urban communities.
Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Be Active pedometers
- Heart rate monitors
- Exercise balls
- Yoga mats
- Dyna bands
- Weights
- Age-appropriate play equipment
- Garden tools and supplies
1 Rural communities are located in counties defined as rural by the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center.
2 Vulnerable populations are defined as low-income uninsured, minority, and/or chronically ill individuals.
