COVID-19 Response Grantees (2021)

In early 2021, we committed an additional $5 million in COVID-19 response to provide emergency relief focused on food and continued support for grantees as they increase their focus on equity and develop stronger organizational resilience.

The 38 grantees resulting from this funding include:

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP)
Increase distribution of locally grown food through ASAP’s Appalachian Farms Feeding Families program which pairs rural food relief sites and child care centers with local farms to meet emergency food needs in 23 Western North Carolina counties and supports local growers. $500,000

Asociación de Mexicanos en Carolina del Norte AMEXCAN
Address emergency food and other COVID-related relief needs of the Latino community in Beaufort, Craven, Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Hyde, Lenoir, Pitt, Nash, Wilson, and Sampson Counties. $50,000

Black Child Development Institute - Charlotte
Address emerging organizational needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. $10,000

Meet the emergency food needs of families in East Durham by expanding the capacity of their Community Food Co-op to provide no or low cost fresh, local produce and meat sourced from local farmers of color through a food box delivery program, expanding access to East Durham Farmers Market, and other methods. $50,000

Feeding the Carolinas
Increase distribution of locally grown and culturally appropriate food through Feeding the Carolinas’ seven member Food Banks to help meet emergency food needs in every North Carolina county and support local growers. $1,000,000

Fertile Ground Food Cooperative
Meet the emergency food needs of families in Southeast Raleigh by providing weekly deliveries of healthy, locally grown food to the most at-risk households. $50,000

The Conservation Fund: A Nonprofit Corporation
Increase capacity for COVID-relief with a focus on emergency food response using locally grown food in rural communities statewide and primarily serving organizations led by people of color through the administration of emergency response grants to rural, grassroots groups and seven regional NC food hubs. $1,975,000
