Who We Are
Listener. Partner. Connector. Investor. As a foundation, we are fortunate in that we have a number of roles. We value each of them.
Our Organization
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation is a private, charitable foundation established as an independent entity by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina in 2000. Over the past two decades we have been honored to work with – and support – organizations, government entities, and community partnerships across the state, investing $178 million in North Carolina through more than 1,200 grants, collaborations, and special initiatives.
While our mission has remained largely unchanged, our strategies and priorities have shifted over time, reflecting what we have learned about both our organization and what is happening around us. At our core, we are focused on investing in systemic changes that address the key drivers of health. We also maintain a commitment to give voice to people at a local level and meet communities where they are.
As a private foundation, we file a Form 990-PF each year with the Internal Revenue Service, outlining detailed financial data and a complete list of grants approved. Our most recent return is available to download.
