Casey Leiber
Grants Manager
As Grants Manager, Casey provides leadership in the planning, management, and implementation of the Foundation’s grantmaking systems and processes. Her goal is to foster and champion a grants management department that delivers on the mission of the Foundation while supporting and enhancing the experience of grantee partners at every stage of the process. She is committed to advancing equitable, ethical, and effective grantmaking in everything she does.
Casey joined the Blue Cross NC Foundation in January 2023. She has more than nine years of experience at a variety of local, national, and international foundations. Most recently she worked as the Grants Manager for Breakthrough Energy and Gates Ventures, where she built the grants management department and systems from scratch in order to support emerging national and international climate change philanthropic and investment work. Casey received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University and Masters in International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy from Furtwangen University in Berlin, Germany.
What I love about my work:
I love the ability to support brilliant individuals (and organizations!) both internally and externally in my work. I find that grants management professionals have nearly unlimited opportunities to take great care of folks who are doing incredible work in communities, often with little support. Creating and refining systems that ease burdens, infusing intentionality and equity into all layers of a process/system, and being responsive to the evolving needs and challenges of the people and organizations we partner with are all deeply rewarding aspects of my work.
When I’m not at my desk:
I love playing volleyball, hiking with my dog Junebug and my partner Cole, and traveling as much as possible.
Favorite thing about North Carolina:
I moved to Asheville in 2022. I have loved learning about the rich food and cultural history of the region as well as the beautiful nature and hiking available.
